Photo Friday: WDW Via Napoli Calamari

You know those people take a photo of every single thing they eat while on vacation? They wait patiently (most of the time) to take the first bite just so they can get the perfect image to share with other people? Yep, that’s us.

To celebrate the start of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, today’s photo is of…you guessed it, food!

This photo was taken at Via Napoli in the Italy Pavilion in World Showcase at Epcot. We order the breaded calamari and spicy tomato sauce appetizer ever time. Each piece is golden and delicious. Via Napoli has plenty of natural light inside, so taking photos of all the food and details is easy.

I could make an entire post out of tips for food photos, but the main tips would be this:
-Take the photo before the first bite (this is the most difficult tip!)
-Take a photo of the inside if the first photo doesn’t capture all the awesomeness inside (like for a cupcake with filling)
-Make sure you have enough lighting to capture all of the details
-Oh yeah…and make sure you look back at the photo to reminisce about it’s deliciousness ;)

I wanted the photo below to be much larger, but for some reason my Lightbox plugin that would allow it to open as a larger photo isn’t working, so I had to stick with the size (width) of the blog section. Sorry :(

Photo Friday: Dave Navarro

I’d like to start a new weekly feature called Photo Friday. I’ll share one photo and include the technical aspects of the photo as well as a little background on it. It can be a mini photography lesson and small burst of entertainment in one post. Let me know if you like the idea and you can ask any questions you have in the comments. And if you want to share it, well that would just be swell too :)

For our first photo, here is Dave Navarro from Jane’s Addiction. We saw them on the NIN/JA Tour in Tampa, FL in 2009 when they were touring with Nine Inch Nails. It was supposed to be NIN’s farewell tour and they relaxed the camera policy to almost non-existent - which was shocking, since you can almost never bring a DSLR camera inside of a concert venue. Brett probably wishes he could go back in time with his current camera (and I wish I brought a better video camera) and really go crazy, but we still got some pretty amazing photos that night…I’ll probably share more in the future. Fun fact: Trent’s name is inspired by the lead singer of NIN, Trent Reznor.

Happy Grandparents Day

Last year, we shared our Grandparents Day photo (you can see the original post here) which was our answer to a little “gift” from Trent. We decided to keep it simple again this year and do the photo in the same chair. He was excited to take a photo…we set the chair down and he ran right over and sat down. I hope this means he’s turning into our little professional model. ;)

And because we all love a good comparison, here is last year’s photo. He was almost 3 months old there.

Helping Daddy Vacuum. When we vacuum, he follows us around and tries to help. Soon, he will be doing it himself while I lounge in the pool. That’s what kids are for, right? ;)

On Saturday, we went to a 1st birthday party. The theme was “Rainbow of Fun” and everything was decorated in rainbow colors. It was so cute and fun! We splashed around in the pool…it was hot out!

And if I ever wonder again if Trent got any traits from me, I need not look any further than the following sequence of photos.

Yup, we eat cupcakes the same. So proud.

That night, we went to see fireworks and enjoyed a yummy dinner beforehand. Look at all those pieces of bacon. THAT is how you do a bacon cheeseburger.

The fireworks were actually a rescheduled 4th of July show in a nearby small town. Brett took the opportunity to try some new photo techniques. I think they look pretty cool, don’t you? Almost like flowers.

Oh yeah, and Trent cried 80% of the time. We were shocked, since he does so well at Disney World. We think it was because we had to wake him up right before we had dinner since he fell asleep on the car ride over.

In other news…

Believe it or not, I actually kind of like the Insanity DVDs I’ve done so far compared to some other workout videos I’ve done before. Too many bacon cheeseburgers…

Chips and salsa (one of my favorite eats) in our Pinterest-inspired chips and salsa serving platter…a margarita glass of salsa set in the middle of a bowl of chips. Genius.

Blurry strawberry shortcake. Not pictured: our other dessert, a blueberry cream pie. ALL the food was consumed. No leftovers. Bummer.

We watched the Disney Cruise Line DVD during dinner one night last week to amp up our excitement for our cruise. Boy, do we have a long 5 months to go!
