Progressive Snapshot Update

A little over a month ago, we embarked on a quest to save some money on our car insurance by testing out the Progressive Snapshot.

When we first got the Snapshot, I posted about it, along with my hopes and hesitations of letting my insurance company monitor my driving habits (I AM from New Jersey after all…land of road rage and excessive middle finger usage). You plug the device into your vehicle and drive as you normally would (or better-wink, wink). After just 30 days, Progressive takes a look and decides whether to give you a discount based on your driving habits.

Well, here we are, over 30 days later and I am delighted to say we received the maximum discount! Woot! Woot!

I was a little worried at first because when we got our bill for the next 6 months, it showed that my 6-month premium actually INCREASED from my prior 6-month premium. WTF!

It just so happened that they sent out that bill JUST before they calculated my Snapshot discount. Talk about bad timing…I was going to be soo angry! I already had the number for another insurance company on speed dial ready to go.

The very next day, I got my updated bill for the next cycle and there it was…a nice shiny 30% discount. I wanted to kiss the computer monitor. I saved over $160 for the 6 month premium between what my bill was going to be and what it is after applying the Snapshot discount. Not too shabby.

And as icing on the proverbial savings cake, since there is a month left on my current policy that’s already paid in full, they gave me a refund of $31 back onto my credit card! That paid for our monthly Walt Disney World Annual Pass payment!
