5 Months

Writing these monthly posts just never gets old. However, each month seems to creep up on me faster and faster each time. I always have things to update and I’m still always in awe of how much things have changed from the prior month. In the future, I hope to look back and be completely amazed at Trent’s changes from month to month.

So here we are at 5 months!

 

 

I can’t help but think that even though things are constantly changing from month to month, this month will be kind of bittersweet. For one, we’ve been able to feed him nothing but breastmilk up until this point and that will change in a month. We knew we would want to start solids at 6 months, but admittingly, there have been times where I wanted to cave and start earlier for a couple of reasons. First, he still isn’t sleeping through the night and wakes up to eat (and play and talk and kick…). So it sounded enticing to start him on solids to fill him up before bed in the hopes that he would sleep through the night. Second, I’ve wondered whether starting solids would mean less pumping for me and more flexibility with feeding times, but after reading a little more about it, I don’t think either are the case. Needless to say, I am happy that we’ve stuck with it and this should be the last month with just breastmilk on the menu (even though I really wanted to feed him some sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving!). We haven’t purchased a highchair yet, though. We put one on his Amazon wish list, but I have a feeling we may end up purchasing it ourselves. Trent’s preparing for food too with the addition of his first little chomper!

 

 

I also think it won’t be long before Trent starts crawling. I am shocked that I am even writing that, since up until recently he hasn’t really rolled over much. He definitely rolls over from his back to his tummy more than the other way around…I think he likes being on his tummy so much that he doesn’t WANT to roll over lol. He has been pulling up his legs and pushing with his feet, along with pushing up on his hands and lifting his chest off the ground. So he knows each action, he just has to put them all together. We’ll put him down facing one way and he slowly scoots himself around to face the other way. I guess that means babyproofing the house is in our near future!
