This weekend was full of Halloween fun! And it’s not even Halloween yet…I love it!

Last week, we set up a few pumpkins in a leaf pile in the front yard to do a little photoshoot with Trent. We got three large pumpkins at Publix for $5.99 each, a total bargain in my opinion. We went to a pumpkin patch one year, grabbed 2 large pumpkins and a few mini ones and had to pick our jaws up off the floor when we heard the total was around $70 (there were no signs posted). For pumpkins that are going to rot in a couple of weeks? Ummm, no. Needless to say, we won’t be going there again and we are more than happy with Publix pumpkins!

Anywho, we dressed Trent up in jeans and a t-shirt with a skull and crossbones on it. Even his shoes had skulls on them. Trent is so bad-ass.

Unfortunately, after a few shots of him sitting up against the pumpkins, I stepped a few feet away so that I could get his attention to smile for the camera and he started to lean to the side and ended up face-planting into the pile of crinkly leaves and it freaked him out so badly. I felt awful.

Luckily, he got over it pretty quickly and we did a few more shots.

And we took these for our added entertainment.

On Saturday, we went to a wedding and the annual Halloween party at Brett’s mom’s house. I’ll save the details for another post when all the photos are ready, but I will say it was beautiful and so much fun. Trent was the perfect lil’ ring bearer and was so good throughout the ceremony.

On Sunday, some friends brought over their son for a play date with Trent. Their son was born on the same day in the same hospital and our recovery rooms were next door to each other. How weird/cool is that? They are little birth buddies!

I was so glad they could come over. Since Trent doesn’t go to a daycare, as much as I know he loves spending time with daddy all day, he will miss out on the daily social interaction. This may not be as much of a big deal now, but we still want take opportunities for him to play with other kids whenever we can.

We started out with some tummy time.

While the babies were staring at each other playing on the tummy time mat, Brett carved a pumpkin for the next item on the agenda…babies in pumpkins!!

Trent decided he was going to have a taste of the pumpkin and there was no turning back. He had his first taste of something that wasn’t breast milk and he couldn’t get enough of it. It made for some pretty hilarious photos. He was munching around the edge like it was a cob of corn.

I’m guessing we should include pumpkin on the menu for when he starts eating solid foods.

Then it was time for our babies to be artists with their first pumpkins! I grabbed the idea for their pumpkins from here and here. We used Frog Tape to make their initials on each of their pumpkins and then poured some Crayola washable paint onto paper plates.

I dipped his hands into the plate and he went nuts with excitement.

I guided his hands over to the pumpkin and briefly moved his hands around to show him what to do and then he did it all on his own. The only thing I did was make sure to dip his hands into more paint every once in a while.

Good thing I got washable paint, look at my hands! Haha. After several minutes, he decided he was hungry instead, but luckily we were finished and just had to let the paint dry before the big reveal.

I love them!

Most - scratch that - ALL of our family and friends, and some strangers too, know that Halloween is big in our family. Brett’s mom has a HUGE party every year (I think this is the 15th year) for pretty much anyone that wants to come with all kinds of Halloween themed food, decorations and costumes galore.

We’ve passed out candy each year we’ve been in our current house and Brett decorates the front porch with spiders and pumpkins and other spooky stuff. I know he wants to do more, but I figured it would be best to wait until Trent is old enough to appreciate it…but by that time, we will be trick-or-treating!

Brett and I start pondering Halloween costumes months in advance. He utilizes some serious DIY skills when he makes his costumes. I’ve been kind of slacking in the costume department the past couple of years, but I’m looking to make a comeback…especially now that we have a little guy to dress up too! We usually do seperate costumes because I can never convince him to go along with my ideas or vice versa. You can say we are a tad stubborn when it comes to each others’ costumes, we both think our ideas are better than the other person’s haha.

My FAVORITE halloween was when we went to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World. I dressed up as Alice from Alice in Wonderland and Brett was an old-time photographer (minus the old-time camera).

 

We’ll be skipping Disney’s Halloween party this year because Trent is a little too young, but we plan on making it a yearly event starting next year!

This year, though, we will be attending the Halloween party at Brett’s mom’s house, so even though we won’t be trick-or-treating, we will still be dressing up for the party! Not only will it be a Halloween party, but our friends are getting married there right before the party and our little Trent is the ring bearer. We think we finally decided on a costume and get this…we agreed on a group costume!

Say what!?

That’s right, we compromised (hey, isn’t that what marriage is all about?) and agreed on costumes that go together. I definitely want to take advantage of group costumes while I can before Trent decides he wants to be something totally random that we can’t go along with…but I will try my darndest because we have some pretty fun ideas for future Halloweens if we can pull them off. This year is kind of weird since he can’t walk yet and because of the wedding beforehand (we probably won’t be in costume for that), but I have had so much fun looking at baby costumes. They are just so much cuter than the adult costumes I’ve been looking at for the past twenty something years.

But just because we agreed on costumes, doesn’t mean it went without some serious debate/overthinking in order to decide on an actual group costume. Here are some of the ones we thought about doing.

 

Mario Brothers
There would have been several ways to do this…Brett as Luigi, Me as the Princess and Trent as Mario (OMG I die from cuteness just thinking of Trent as a pudgy little Mario in overalls) or Me and Brett and Mario and Luigi and Trent as Yoshi or Toad.

101 Dalmations
I’ve known since before Trent was born that I wanted to do the 101 Dalmations, but Brett didn’t like the idea for his part of the costume and I couldn’t find a baby dalmation costume that I really liked. I would have been Cruella DeVille, Trent would be a little dalmation puppy and Brett would have been Jasper.

 

Wizard of Oz
I thought of this one after seeing this Lion costume online. I would be Dorothy and Brett would be Scarecrow or the Tin Man.

 

Lobster, Chef & Waitress
We’ve always thought this one was cute for when a baby can’t walk, but Trent will probably be at least 16 pounds or so, so we will not be holding him in a pot all night! Plus, this idea has become pretty popular recently and we have a feeling there will be plenty of people out there doing the same thing and we want to keep it creative around here.

Men in Black with a Little Alien
We thought this one was a good idea since Brett would already be wearing a suit for the wedding, but we decided against it because we couldn’t find an alien costume we liked and couldn’t determine how we would want to make one. Also, people wouldn’t know who were were unless we were all standing together. I thought I was creative by thinking this one up all on my own, but was disappointed to see someone already beat me to it.

Fishermen and a Fish
Baby goldfish, to be exact! This was actually what we decided on doing up until 2 seconds before I was going to post this. Literally. I was proofreading this post and couldn’t stop thinking about how cute one of the baby costumes was that I initially had on here. We talked about it for a minute and then changed our minds. So I took that idea off of here and put this one on instead. But seriously, I almost just want to buy this goldfish costume just to see him in it. Brett and I would have been two fisherman with fisherman vests, hats, fishing poles and all kinds of fishing gear on and we’d carry our little baby fish!

 

 

So now that we’ve decided on costumes, we just need to purchase the main parts and put the rest together. We’ll also need to decide on what Halloween themed food we’ll be making this year. Time to hit up my Halloween and Food (Om Nom Nom) boards on Pinterest!

It’s Fall y’all!

I’ve decided to jump on the bucket list bandwagon. Although I’ve typically reserved the term “bucket list” for a life list of to-dos before one ultimately kicks the bucket, I guess having a Fall bucket list would be a must-do list before Fall kicks the bucket per se, no?

Whenever I get to cross off an item, I will post about it and hopefully by the end of Fall, I will have a completed list! I already love making to do lists and the feeling of crossing things off of it and I’ve been working on a life bucket list to eventually post too. The best thing about any list is that you can change/add/delete any items at any time!

As much as I’ll miss my pool (which I didn’t get to use as much this year anyway), I look forward to all the fall activities and yummy fall food. I’m so glad we have our little guy to share everything with, too!

 

 

 

As many cute craft ideas as there are for Grandparents day out there, there wasn’t much Trent could do since he’s still so young. So we used our word bubble chalkboard for Trent to wish his Nana & Poppa a Happy Grandparents Day today! We prefer photos anyway!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommies out there…and as one myself, a special happy day to all the mommies-to-be!

Today was the first weekend day in several weeks that we didn’t have anything on the agenda outside of the house….and it was wonderful! Of course, I used the first half of the day to do laundry and some cleaning, since that was completely ignored last weekend. We also hung a few things up on the nursery wall and organized the baby items we got this past week from my Amazon order and my shower at work on Friday, which Brett joined me for!

I don’t know if it’s because my emotions are super amped-up because I’m pregnant, but I am loving all these commercials with babies recently…and they all seem to be playing today of course. I’ve always thought the eTrade commercials were hilarious, but I’m talking about the emotional ones that I seriously almost tear up over and then Brett laughs at me.

Like this one from Johnson & Johnson’s specifically for Mother’s Day. I literally just teared up while watching it to make sure it was the right video. I am a mess. This is definitely something to play back if having a rough day.

Or this one from Google+ where the dad loses his phone that has all of his photos of his baby on it. I couldn’t imagine losing everything and I immediately asked Brett how he saves/stores/backs up all of our photos to make sure we never lose ours!

And this one from Google Chrome where the dad sends emails to his daughter from the day she is born. He includes videos, photos and little tidbits from their life to share with her when she grows up. I hope to do something like this…whether it be from this blog, our photos and videos, emails or a combination of everything. I don’t have many photos or videos to look back on from my youth and I want that to be completely different for him (although he surely won’t want them shown to future girlfriends!).

I also got my first Mother’s Day card from some wonderful friends.

Right now, Brett has command of the kitchen cooking me a Mother’s Day dinner of filet mignon, jumbo shrimp, baked potatoes and salad…yum! He doesn’t eat red meat, so the steak is just for me and I can’t wait! It’s rainy outside, the house is clean, the candles are burning and the rest of the evening is just for relaxing…what a lovely Mother’s Day.
